Principal’s Points Happy October! I can’t believe we have been in school for 6 weeks. Your children are doing amazing things in the classroom and I am thrilled with all of the support our families provide to Jefferson Elementary. We have had 2 meetings thus far with PTO and Site Council. Special thanks to Heather Ragas, Nikicia Blagrove, Denise Cansler, Amirah Irvin, Priscilda Cooper, Paula Wewer and Theresa Szatkowski-Barber for attending. Our discussions were powerful and insightful. A special thanks to Mrs. Blagrove and Mrs. Ragas for volunteering to be officers of PTO. We are planning many events and would love to have more volunteers. If you are able to help with any of the following, please let one of us know: Yearbook, Popcorn Fridays (Oct. 11), Carnival, Santa’s Shop, Valentine’s Day Dance, Family Game Night (Nov. 9) and Teacher Support activities. I look forward to working with all of you. The Site Council discussed parking lot concerns, the Title I Compact, and our Safety Week. If you have topics for us to discuss, please let one of us know. All are welcome to attend and the Student Council Representatives will be joining us next meeting. I appreciate all of the folks who were able to attend our Parent Resource night and hope you learned lots and enjoyed yourselves. We hope to have more fun events throughout the year. Please watch your child(ren)’s book bags for information on when your child’s conference is scheduled. If the time doesn’t work, please let the teacher know. Our goal is always to have 100% so help us achieve that and we look forward to visiting with you. On October 31st, we will celebrate Halloween by having a school wide parade at 2:00 followed by the parties in the classroom around 2:30. Your child’s teacher will be in contact with you for assistance. Healthy snacks are preferred or a balance of sweet and healthy. Please note the costume guidelines below. As always, come by and see me with any of your concerns.

Guidelines for Costumes: Students may come to school in their costumes as well as their makeup. Masks are not recommended, if a mask is worn it cannot obstruct a child’s vision. Costumes should fit properly. Avoid oversized shoes, high heels and long skirts, baggy, or loose pants that could cause a child to fall. Headgear that will slide over children’s eyes will not be allowed. Imitation knives, guns, swords or anything else resembling a weapon are strictly prohibited. Please be considerate of others and refrain from the blood, guts and/or gory types of costumes.
Parking Lot Reminders Please do not turn left out of the parking lot during dismissal. Be patient and keep your speed limit to 15 miles per hour. Early childhood dismisses at 3:05, please allow them access to the far area of the parking lot. Preferably arrive no earlier than 3:10 for pick up. If you have children from Early Childhood and the Elementary school, please park and walk to get your child. Do not ask your child to cross the parking lot without you. Abide by the No Parking signs by the playground during lunch hours.
