April 2018 Newsletter

Principal’s Points
Thanks to 96% of the Jefferson community that attended our parent teacher conferences. I appreciate your efforts in continuing our partnership with ensuring your child receives the best education possible.
As some of you may heard, a study is being done by the district due to decreased enrollment over the past year. They have decided to keep the boundaries the same for the 2018-2019 school year. However during 2019-2020, Jefferson families may be sent to Ware Elementary if the enrollment continues to decline.
Another study has also taken place to assess the elementary schools on post to see if we are in need of a new school. The results show that indeed Morris Hill and Jefferson are in need of many upgrades. Out of the 186 schools being assessed across the nation, our schools will be ranked according to need. If we rank in the top 10, chances that the federal government would provide us a new school are possible. In June, we should hear how we rank and whether or not that is a possibility.
With that being said, the district has asked me to share the responsibility of being the principal at Morris Hill as well as Jefferson. I am excited for the new adventure and will continue to support you in any way you need. Remember my door is always open and I enjoy listening to your ideas and concerns.
Please consider getting involved in the discussions that will take place the next year. Note that the meeting on April 24th will address any of your concerns. It will begin at 3:30 in our library. Your children are welcome to attend.

Happy Birthday

STEM Fair Coming in May
A STEM fair will be held at Jefferson on May 9th from 1:00 to 3:00 in the gym. Parents are encouraged to attend. Judging will be done from 1:00 to 1:45 and then the public is welcome to walk through. Those students who have excellent projects that meet the criteria will be on display at the district STEM fair from 5:00 to 8:00 on May 10th at Junction City Middle School. Please watch your child’s book bag for more information as we will need your support. If you need materials and cannot obtain them for whatever reason, please see me and we can get them for you.

Fifth Grade Farewell
As the year comes to an end, I would like to gather a few parents to plan our 5th graders celebration. It is scheduled for May 23rd beginning at 6:00 in our gymnasium. Teachers, students and parents would like this to be a memorable experience. If you are interested in assisting, please email me at [email protected] or give me a call at the school at 785-717-4552.
