Principal’s Points
Our wonderful PTO deserves a “shout out” for continuing to provide us with monthly activities for our families. On Friday, January 26th, we enjoyed chili and games organized by our co-presidents Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Cansler and their members including Mrs. Dudley. Coming soon will be our Valentine’s Day Sock Hop on Friday, February 16th from 3:30 to 5:00. Please send the sheet back to school if you are interested in your child attending. Parents are also welcome and I am looking forward to a fun filled evening. Please note our upcoming events and get involved. On February 20th, the Site Council will meet at 3:30 in the library. The program is on how we meet all of the students’ academic needs each day during a 30 minute block of time. All are welcome, including your children as we like them to share their learning. Next month is short with spring break but also mark your calendar for the upcoming parent teacher conferences. We pride ourselves on getting 98% of our parents to school to meet with our staff. In April, we will be participating in our state assessments for reading, math and science at the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade levels. The  following is our schedule so please ensure your child is in school on those days.

Pennies for Patients
On Friday, February 2nd, students participated in an assembly to learn about the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. The presenter shared stories about children in the world who have cancer. For the month of February, students will be collecting change to put into boxes to support the cancer researchers and their families. Please encourage your children to give some of their allowance to this important cause. The classrooms have set a goal for collection and the one with the most raised, will receive a meal from Olive Garden. Thanks in advance for your support.
PRIME ATTENDANCE INCENTIVE
Attendance at Jefferson has become a concern and it can truly affect a students’ academic performance. In order to improve our attendance, we are implementing an incentive. Beginning Monday, February 5, classrooms who have 100% of their students here on time, will post a letter from the acronym PRIME outside their door. Once the whole word has been spelled out, the class will receive recognition for their efforts and will be awarded a special treat or activity. We hope this will support you as a parent to alleviate any problems your children are experiencing with getting up and ready for school Remember anytime you send a child late or pick him/her up early, it is considered a tardy by the state of Kansas. Please review the truancy law that is published in the Elementary Guidebook. If you have any questions or concerns, contact me by phone or email at [email protected]
